No marijuana crops were uncovered in Rappahannock earlier this month when helicopters surveyed the county, Sheriff John Henry Woodward said August 20. The eradication effort was more fruitful in other parts of the state, however, according to a Virginia Department of State Police report released August 14.
According to the report, the state’s 1984 Marijuana Eradication Suppression Program increased to 23,600 the number of marijuana plants located and destroyed in the state by all laws enforcement agencies. One hundred-three persons have been arrested this year as part of the effort.
The helicopters touched down at Rappahannock Park in Washington August 6, where State Police teamed up with other enforcement agencies, including the National Guard, the Division of Forestry, the Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries, the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and county law enforcement officers.
The eradication program was conducted state-wide between July 28 and August 12, according to the report.
