Sperryvilie. I observed (Bright’s truck) pulling out in the eastbound lane,* Brown wrote in a criminal complaint he filed March 12.
“The pickup made a wide turn when turning out from 1003. I then slowed down to keep from hitting the pickup, and at that time, I observed (Bright) operating the pickup,” he added.
The department issued an surest warrant for Bright that same day. Five days later, Sheriff John Henry Woodward arrested Bright near the courthouse on Gay Street in Washington.
Bright was held without bail, then released on his own recognizance after a preliminary hearing March 20. A grand jury indcted him in Rappahannock Circuit Court July 9.
According to the written indictment- ment“Gary
Lee Bright did unlawfully and feloniously operate a motor vehicle on a public highway” in Rappahannock County March 7 “after having been adjudicated an haibtual offender.”
