For Rappahannock County High School girls basketball coach Greg Waters, last year’s Bull Run District record of 6-6 is only a starting point.
“I’ve got 11 players, all of whom could play,” he said. “All of them have talent. Some have a great deal of talent. If they can mesh well on the court, a district championship isn’t out of the question.”
Whether Waters and the Lady Panthers can make the playoffs will depend in part on the seasons of three returning players—Natalie Butler, Connie Compton and Karen Jordan.
Jordan, who made last year’s alldistrict first team, racked up 192 points last season—an average of 12.8 points per game, grabbed 91 rebounds and shot 65.6 percent from the free-throw line.
“She has lots of talent,” Waters said, “and a lot of court sense. But you can’t win games on one person. ”
