interfere with the practice of religion in any church. However, both churches and church schools affect the public interest in several ways that make public regulation imperative, not only for the public at large, but also for the church’s congregations and pupils. Specifically, the matters of water supply, sewage, parking and avoidance of traffic hazards because of improper ingress and egress. These are not religious matters; they are public matters and should be dealt with accordingly.
III. Let us assume the good faith of those who make up our local government, until we have convincing evidence to the contrary.
This needs little discussion. I assume that the Planning Commission will welcome and adopt reasonable changes offered by the public after full opportunity for consideration of the ordinance has been given.
Finally, under this heading, there remains the problem of insiders’ and ‘outsiders’ that has created conflict, unnecessarily, in the past. We need to join together as a community to consider change and adopt this ordinance. If outsiders have had a hand in it, we should not judge their work on that basis, but on the basis of the work itself. Thesame goes for the insiders.
