All this in the name of “the quiet enjoyment” of our neighbors’ property by our neighbors. Where this quiet-enjoyment doctrine came from I do not wish to contemplate. But when I see real estate brokers making laws about real estate, and junk car dealers making rules about how many junk cars a person may be allowed to keep-do I need to spell it out? I see something beside a desire for the quiet enjoyment of a neighbor to his property.
What’s the matter with a little noise anyway? What is America supposed to be-a graveyard? In the words of Bobby Dylan (one of yesteryear’s rvoisemakers) “You should be made to wear earphones”-or earplugs! Maybe we should change the name of our county from “Rappahannock” to “Resthaven.”
And as we are being made well aware the ban would prevent “making a joyful noise unto the Lord.”
The Constitution divides church and state. Jesus divided the things belonging to Caesar from the things belonging to God. But, personally, as a citizen and as a religionist, I don’t want to have to obey any laws written by the hand of Satan-no matter what “good men” he uses to draft them. But a tree is known by its fruit.
Tile planning board admitted that its attempt to control worship stemmed from a desire to help and support the “mainline” local religions at the expense of the so-called “cults.” That is, it hoped to prevent all spiritual change and growth by fostering the traditional and the established.
