Put Respect Before

Last week’s zoning meeting was a fascinating display of local democracy, in which I found both hopeful and ominous signs. It seems to me that with the consideration of this proposed new zoning ordinance we have even more at stake than the many ways that zoning affects on our lives.
We have a choice of futures now, according to the way that we treat each other. As we grapple .with this difficult task of creating a fair, practical, legally consistent zoning law, we will either be stronger and better off, or-as a county of people whose lives are intertwined md fi interdependent-weaker and poorer.
