Robert G. Cerdwf a native of Rappahannock County, has been named administrator of the rail and public transportation division, the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation announced recently.
.Corder had been administrator of the department’s rail transportation division since 1979.
• Five Hurt In Accident
Five Rappahannock High School students were injured in an automobile accident on Wednesday, March 6 when the car they were traveling in struck a tree.
The accident occurred on Route 647 (the Marshall Road) east of Flint Hill, said State Trooper Chuck Moore. The driver of the 1972 Datsun station wagon was Anita Del Grosso, 16, who told Trooper Moore that she lost control of the car after she swerved to miss an animal in the road.
Trooper Moore said that the car was totalled, and that one of the passengers, Rolanda Cook, was unconscious at the scene. The five were transported to Warren Memorial Hospital, and Cook was later transferred to Winchester Medical Center.
Theresa Del Grosso, Rosalind Cook, Jeffery Fudd and Anita Del Grosso were treated at Warren Memorial and released. Rolanda Cook is in guarded condition at the Winchester Center.
No charges in connection with the accident have been placed at this time.
• Asthma Awareness Workshop
Asthma, the most common chronic disease among children, accounts for one quarter of absences in the nation’s schools. Most children with asthma have a mild form, controllable with prescribed medication. Others, however, suffer severe asthma attacks which can cause serious physical and emotional harm, even death.
The American Lung Association of Virginia (ALAV) will hold an Asthma Awareness Workshop for children with asthma, ages four to 12, and their parents. The support group will meet Saturday, March 30 at 2 p.m. at the Culpeper Memorial Hospital. Debbie Stone, RN, of Child Health Associates in Nokesville, Va., will teach children breathing and relaxation exercises, while Dr. Susan Vignola, private social worker, willjead a discussion for adults. Afterwards, parents and children will gatfier for open dialogue.
