Students Jump For Heart

On March 29 and 30, an estimated 200 students at Rappahannock County Elementary School will help themselves and others when they participate in Jump Rope For Heart, a special exercise event benefitting the American Lung Association, Rappahannock, Va.

Jump Rope For Heart is a team exercise event. Students will take turns jumping rope as a member of a six-person team. When a jumper begins to tire and stops jumping, another member will begin jumping. Participants will rotate in sequence and, as a team effort, will try to jump rope for a maximum of 180 minutes (three hours). Each team member will secure pledges in advance for each minute his or her TEAM jumps rope.

Sponsored by Rappahannock County American Heart Association along with the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the event teaches students about teamwork, lifelong exercise habits and community spirit.

The money raised for the American Heart Association will go towards research, education and community service programs in Virginia. To find out how you can help, call Carol Nowakoski at 987-8259. Volunteers are needed to serve refreshments, keep time and records, etc.
