I believe most residents of Rappahannock County are in agreement with the statement that our teachers are severely underpaid. It was in the expectation of hearing a remedy for this situation that I attended the School Board meeting on Tuesday, March 5, during which the Superintendent was to present his proposed budget for 1985-86.
Initially, the proposed 13 percent increase in all teachers’ salaries sounded like a reasonable attempt to redress the lopsided pay situation in the Rappahannock County Public School system until the statement, “I did not have the heart to give myself less than a 13 percent raise in salary as well”, fell like a sledgehammer.
I would like to request the members of the School Board to consider during their deliberations on the school budget the disparity between the generous salaries of the administration and
