My father, for example, owns seven acres in a rural part of Prince William County. He pays the same taxes per acre as the person who owns 1/2 acre in one of the many subdivisions. However, my father lives on a dirt road with no sidewalk, no sewer, no water and no street lights. There is a rumor that a county policeman drove by his house once.
So land use is fair to the landowners, and is also an important tool in preserving the open areas, forests and farms of our county.
