school principals and the minimal wages of the teachers.
According to the proposed budget, a teacher with 25 years of service at the close of his career w'ould earn $21,435 compared to $40,895 for tlie position of superintendent or $33,134 for a high school principal. Is this a fair representation of the duties, work load and qualifications of each position?
The argument that the funds required for a significant raise in teachers’ salaries, or for the art teacher so desperately needed in the elementary school, are lacking does not ring true to my ears. They could be made available through a reassessment of the proposed salaries.
The value of the services provided by our teachers to our community is not reflected in the existing pay scale.
