Rappahannock High’s junior varsity basketball team came away with the Bull Run District Championship Saturday, March 2 cfter defeating Page County, 43-40 at Warren County High School.
The JV’s had a 15 point lead at halftime with the score standing at 249. “W'e played a good defensive half only allowing one field goal, but we sent Page to the foul line 13 times and they hit seven of the free throws,” Coach Greg Waters said.
Page had cut Rappahannock’s lead to seven in the third quarter due to “our early fouls and defensive laziness in the second half,” Coach Waters said. Page outscored Rappahannock 18 to 10 during the third quarter.
“We changed defenses in the fourth quarter to protect the players in foul trouble, but still we seemed to only want to ride out the lead,” Coach Waters said. “Because of our lack of defensive effort, Page pulled to within three points with 14 seconds left.”
Page missed a shot that would have pulled them to within a point of Rappahannock, and Devin Moore made the rebound that allowed Rappahannock to hold the ball until time expired.
Richard Tribino was the JV high scorer for the game with 13 points. Thomas Williams and Butch Foster both scored 10 points. Devin Moore
