Mrs. LiUKe comes to tnese projects with the concern of an artist as well as the mind of a scientist. A practicing painter from 1959 to 1968, she exhibited at the Corcoran Museum, the Baltimore Museum and in three oneperson shows at the Studio Gallery in Washington, D.C. She has shared her knowledge with other artists and art students, tirelessly and generously, for over 20 years.
Middle Street Gallery in Washington, Virginia is the only outlet for serious professional artists in the area. Established in 1981 by Dan Lewis and Sara Shorter, the gallery has specialized in innovative works of art with a high level of craftsmanship and spirituality. This showcase for rural artists maintains the caliber of a Washington, D.C. Gallery.
Among those who have exhibited at Middle Street are photographer Tim Kilby, whose work is included in the Corcoran Museum photography collection; painter Rex Slack, who went on to have a one-man show at his native West Virginia Museum of Culture and History and will be exhibiting at the Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville this year; sculptor Natalie Lewis who has exhibited widely throughout the state; and Ray Heus, a printer whose work will be featured in Sweetbriar College’s inaugural show in their new art center.
