School Superintendent Estabrook’s most important comment during his initial school budget presentation was that although it is his responsibility to prepare a school budget, the figures displayed are not cast in stone. He added that the ultimate school budget is “our” budget; Rappahannock County citizens’.
That means since we are tired of high teacher turnover, lengthy replacement recruitment and low teacher morale, we can send a positive signal to the teachers, school board and supervisors by telling them that Rappahannock County must remain competitive with surrounding counties by increasing teachers’ salaries at a minimum of 18 percent. We want quality education and we want quality teachers.
