Five indictments were returned by a grand jury at Rappahannock’s Term Day on Monday, March 11. James Allen White was indicted for grand larceny, Murphy Reed, Jr. was indicted for grand larceny and breaking and entering and James Allen Smith was indicted for grand larceny and breaking and entering.
James Allen Smith was released on $2,500 personal recognizance bonds for each charge, and the case was continued to April 3 at 9 a.m. The personal recognizance bonds require Smith’s appearance in court on that day or the amount of the bonds will be forfeited.
Judge William Shore Robertson declined to appoint counsel for James Allen White, and the case was continued to give White an opportunity to employ a lawyer. A $10,000 cash or corporate surety bond in White’s case was kept in effect by Judge Robertson. The cash or corporate surety bond requires that White either pay $10,000 in cash or get .< bondsman in order to be released from jail. Judge Robertson also issued a capias order for Reed.
In other cases, Albert J. Grayson was declared an habitual offender on the recommendation of the Division of Motor Vehicles. As an habitual offender, Grayson loses the privilege to drive for 10 years. If caught driving
