The marriage of Pamela Yvette Nicholas, daughter of Dr.and Mrs. Freddie W. Nicholas, Sr., of Ettrick, to Dr. Robert Lee Stokes, Jr., of Newport News, son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Stokes, Sr., of Richmond took place at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20 in the Memorial Chapel.
The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Reverend Dr. Andrew J. White, pastor of Zion Baptist Church.
Mr. Buckner Gamby was organist, Dr. Thomas Bridge was violinist.
Mrs. Anna Epps, Mrs. Thomasine Hill of Petersburg, and Mr. Freddie Brewer of Inglewood, California, were vocalists.
The bride, escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, wore a formal length gown of ivory taffeta with a fitted bodice that was accented with Aleneon lace appliques which molded into a long torso. Her dress was fashioned with a high lace collar and yoke of imported English netting with seed pearl buttons down the back. The Juliet sleeves were trimmed with matching Aleneon lace and adorned with seed pearls. The dropped waist flowed into a full skirt enhanced by Schiffli scalloping and detailed Aleneon cutwork adorned the hemline and cathedral train.
Her chapel-length veil of ivory imported French illusion fell from a cap of Aleneon lace and seed pearls. The edging of illusion was accented with Schiffli embroidery.
She carried a cascading bouquet of stephanotis, white roses, lilies of the valley, carnations, and baby’s breath with ivory streamers.
Ora Stanton Nicholas of Marina, California, sister-in-law of the bride was matron of honor. Lisa Melanie Micholas of Ettrick, sister of the bride, was maid of honor.
