Kramer said that at some point the lines will have to be replaced instead of continually repairing. “The cost of replacement would probably not be as much as the cost of repairs we’ve done added up,” Fisher said. “Also, you have to look at how many times in the past year customers had their service disrupted because we’re supposed to supply water all of the time.”
Miller made a motion to adopt the budget with the rate increase, and it was passed unanimously. Wickens said that he would like to have the money gained by the increase identified as a capital improvement fund. Fisher said that that could be done.
Other Business
Fisher also advised the council that the State Water Control Board is requiring localities to pass an ordinance for cross control measures to be taken. Cross control refers to the practice of maintaining an air gap in the water pipes to prevent back flow. Council members will read the ordinance and discuss it at its next meeting.
The town planning commission sent the proposed historic district ordinance back to the council with its recommendation to adopt the ordinance as amended. A public hearing on the historic district ordinance and the proposed dog ordinance will be held during next month’s meeting. The council voted to officially charge the town
