To the editor:
Last week you published a most unusual Letter to the Editor: one signed by three supervisors (a majority) of our county’s governing body. I believe that this was the first such letter ever published in this county since it was established in 1833.
And what great development caused Messrs. Lane, Baldwin and Latham to take such a precedent-breaking step? Why, their disappointment over the INGRATITUDE of the public school establishment which will not recognize that the additional public funds in the proposed 1985-86 School Fund budget, even after the bottom line cut of $120,000, remains what these Supervisors correctly call "a veritable GEYSER” of new taxpayers' money! While I can certainly sympathize with the Supervisors’ disappointment, exasperation and indignation over the often observed and expectable ingratitude of public employees, these three gentlemen completely missed a much more important point: their own complete failure, as the Board majority, to take the necessary and obvious steps to prevent the fiscal scams of which they complain so bitterly (plus others they don’t mention, which are blatant in the last couple of budgets, not only in the School Fund but in the other county departments as well).
