1 his is the most beautitul place to raise sons, especially if they like the outdoors like mine did,” Eleanor said. Her sons are now married and living in Williamsburg and Florida, so she hopes to find time to see them more now that she has retired.

In her last job, as the library aide, Eleanor typed book cards, marked books and shelved them. During her years in the library, she noticed some changes in the children and their reading habits.

“More and more children don’t like to read, but I was surprised in the last couple of years at the number of students who do read and like to,” Eleanor said.

Eleanor also noticed that children are being required to do research for papers at an earlier age. Basically, though, she thinks that children have changed over the years. “I think that they have too much too soon, and it is very seldom that they appreciate what they have,” Eleanor said. “Respect has gone by the board, and that’s not just in Rappahannock, but everywhere.”

She said that the lack of respect can be seen in the media when, instead of using Mr. and Mrs., only a person’s last name is used. “I always made the children say “Yes, maam” or “No,
