pervisors from getting on with the search. Everybody knows that nowadays it is expensive and hard to find anybody to do just about anything at all. We all proceed on that assumption.
The Board says it is willing to pay an administrator between $25,000 and $28,000 a year. County administrators in both Clarke and Madison counties-the only ones contacted- agreed that that salary would be sufficient to hire a qualified administrator.
Another of Eastham’s concerns wras that the Board would give to the administrator an impossible workload. That should not be a problem. Granted, a qualified administrator will be expected to do quite a lot. If, however, the workload proves to be unreasonably heavy, then some of the wTork will have to be redistributed. Maybe the Board will have to hire a secretary". Anyway, we have faith that a qualified administrator and the Board of Supervisors will be able to seek reasonable solutions to problems that arise.
On the matter of wrhether or not to hire a county administrator, the supervisors’ most serious^onsideration should be this: Do they feel ambitious enough to assert, on a daily basis, constant and more involved leadership at a time when the county urgently needs it.
If not, the county should hire an administrator.
