Alice Matthews

Baptist Churchwoman

Mrs. Alice Virginia Matthews, 63, of Sperryville, died Tuesday, June 11 at University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.

Mrs. Matthews was a native of Rappahannock County and a retired domestic worker. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Woodville.

Survivors include one daughter, Alice Page of Centreville; three sons, Morgan Matthews of California, James Matthews of Falls Church and Harry Matthews of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Also surviving are one sister, Roberta Wigington of Vienna and five brothers, Ned Jackson of Falls Church, Thomas Jackson of Glen Arden, Md., Freddie Jackson of Sperryville, John Jackson of Fairfax and Peter Jackson of Washington, D.C.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Woodville by the Rev. George 0. Dean of Front Royal. Burial was in the family section of the church cemetery.
