“It was very cold, but I would have to take my mittens off to fill the needle and to put the alcohol on the knee,” Isabel said. “The alcohol would freeze to my hand, and then I could hardly hold the needle.” The shots had to be given twice a day for four days and by the end of that time, Isabel had gotten the hang of it.

Isabel also takes care of the tack and the other physical needs of the horses. She does have her fun when she has the time for trail rides. “Trail rides are fun and relaxing, but jumping is more work because you have to be concentrating on what you’re doing and what the horse is doing,” Isabel said. “You have to out-think some horses, but there are others that make jumping like pushing a button and sitting back while they do it all.”
