Rappahannock County boys captured the top two spots and placed five runners in the top nine to defeat ..Clarke County and Wakefield School in cross country Sept. 25.
The girls, however suffered from injury and illness in losing to Clarke.
Still, Bonnie Grimsley set a school record, running the 3.1-mile Rappahannock home course, one which circles the elementary school in 20:24. She finished fourth in the race.
Teammate Karen Ludwig was seven seconds behind her in fifth place in, the girls’ 21-34 loss to Clarke.
Kathy Dodson, who limped around the course, finished ninth, Denise Eidson 10th, Leslie Nichols 11th and April Adams 13th.
“The girls had a tough time,” reported coach Ann Spieker.
Two runners were ill and did not race.
