Rock ‘n roll dance
A rock ‘n roll dance will be held Oct. 4 from 8-11 p.m. at Rappahannock County High School. The event is sponsored by the RCHS Booster Club, and proceeds will be used to build a marquee in front of the school.
Admission will be $2 per student, and all RCHS students are invited and encouraged to bring their favorite tapes and/or records. The DJs will be Lucky McCoy, Mike DeLuise, Dexter Freeman, Richard Tribino, Patrick Brown and Doug Smith.
Casual dress and tennis shoes may be worn. Home baked goods and sodas will be sold.
Recorder lessons
The Child Care and Learning Center is offering recorder lessons beginning Oct. 26 for eight consecutive weeks. The instructor will be Lorraine Resting from Huntly. The recorder lessons will be offered to children eight years old and up and for adults.

Before-school program
Due to the number of children being left at the Rappahannock County Elementary School before school begins. The Child Care and Learning Center offers a before-school program from 7:30-8 a.m. when bus No. 23 picks up the children. For more information, contact the center at 675-3237.

‘Purple Rose of Cairo’
“The Purple Rose of Cairo,” the movie many critics think is Woody Allen’s finest, will be shown on Oct. 4 and 6 at the Gay St. Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
Mia Farrow stars as Cecilia, a depressed woman of the Depression, seeking escape in the silver screen. As she raptly watches one movie over and over, the movie begins to go away and a character (played by Jeff Daniels) steps out of the screen. He has fallen in love with Cecilia.
The movie-within-a-movie is wildly funny and director Allen adds another layer or two of confusion — What is and what only seems to be?
Other cast members are Danny Aiello, Van Johnson and Stephanie Farrow. The film is rated PG.
Multi-media art show
A multi-media art show entitled, “Faces: A Look Within,” will be on exhibit until Oct. 6 in the John Kerr Building on the campus of Shenandoah College and Conservatory in Winchester. Monday through Friday hours are 2-5 p.m., Saturday hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday hours are 1-4 p.m.
Monahoac Indian presentation
The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution members will be briefed on the Monahoac Indian Tribe by Mrs. George H. Davis, Jr., Mrs. Rapley Owings and Thomas Pillar when the chapter meets on Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. at Mrs. Nelson Lane’s home in Woodville.
Mrs. C.E. Johnson, Jr. and Mrs. R.E. Thompson will serve as cohostesses with Mrs. Lane. Indian artifacts from the Rappahannock area will be on display.
Detailed plans will be made for the Seminar of Virginia Genealogical Research to be conducted Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Culpeper Junior High School by Robert Clay, noted archivist. The public is invited to register with Mrs. Connie Grimsley for a fee of $15, which in eludes lunch.
