This is getting ridiculous.
I have always fancied myself a good math student: scored well on that portion of the college entrance exam, learned to tell time in the first grade, survived ninthgrade algebra without suffering a nervous breakdown.
Spanish and marching band brought different results, but math, I could handle.
Yet, it confounds me when I try to balance my checkbook. The thing never works out. The bank’s records and my records are seldom in the same area code.
Like this weekend, for instance, I went back over the last three months of unrecorded checks to see just how much money I didn’t have only to discover I was missing $35 more.
Balancing a checkbook is simple addition — mostly subtraction — but I can’t seem to get it right.
