“There was only one problem in working with pastels,” she said of the medium used just for the Blue Ridge paintings. “It’s a wonderful medium. You can experiment. You can take off and put on. They give you so much without a final commitment. The only problem is I probably gave myself lead poisoning. I have pastel dust inches deep all over my studio.”
She said she won't return to the mountain landscapes, at least not for awhile.
“I want to do print-making, large oils. If I can, I want to really let loose and let fly.”
But the Blue Ridge will never be far from her work.
“What comes (from this artist’s hand) is generally based on nature.”
Margaret Novak’s pastels of Blue Ridge Mountain landscapes will hang at the Middle St. Gallery in Washington from Sunday through Nov. 1. The opening is scheduled for Sunday from 2-5 p. m..
Regular gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, noon to 5p.m. Sunday.
