St. James School, of Hagarstown, Md. In the first half of play, the Saints challenged Wakefield’s offense and defense with their dexterious stickwork and the Saints’ persistent offense managed to slide two goals past Wakefield’s solid defense.
The second half of play was characterized by a series of impressive fast breaks on the part of Wakefield’s offense with several strong attempts on the Saints’ goal. The game was an exciting one to watch with the line drives back and forth between the defenses and a last minute goal by the Saints.
The Wakefield Hooters were not disappointed with their loss to the more experienced Saints. They view the match as good preparation for the upcoming match against Fauquier High School this week.
Wakefield's newly formed cross country squad had their first two matches ever this past week. In the first meet, the squad competed against other schools in the Delaney Athletic Conference at the Loudoun County campus of NOVA. The Wakefield team placed second with runners Stephen Butler, of Marshall, Brad Pendergraph, of Haymarket, and Jason Walker, of Haymarket, placing third, seventh and 13th respectively in the field of 27 runners.
The second meet against Rappahannock and Clarke counties took place at Rappahannock. The Wake
