A caution light has been installed
on the comer of Main and Middle streets in Washington.
This light has been badly needed for years, as it is one of the • most dangerous comers in town.
It is hoped the State Highway Department will realize the need for more traffic signs and markers in Rappahannock County.
With 1,000 exhibits expected (the weatherman had better do his part!), the Rappahannock County Fair will blow up a hog day for Saturday, Sept. 30 at Rappahannock High School.
Entertainment is varied for the day. Sperryville will put on a minstrel and Washington is all set with a womanless beauty contest.
(Elsewhere) The ladies of Rappahannock have taken the honors long enough.
Saturday, R.M. Menefee entered in the Alexandria Flower Show the unique flower arrangement depicting a hunting scene, which he and Mrs. Menefee had made; it won first prize for Mr. Menefee, an album of records.
25 YEARS AGO RAPPAHANNOCK NEWS From the Oct. 6, 1960 edition
Lyndon B. Johnson, Democratic
candidate for Vice President of the United States, will arrive in Culpeper Monday morning, Oct. 10 at 8:23 p.m.
Large crowds are expected to greet Mr. Johnson when he pauses for a brief visit with supporters of this area on a whistlestop tour of the East.
Russell Brothers Garage of Flint Hill was robbed Thursday night, Sept. 29 for the second time in a matter of two weeks.
This time, theives broke open a large iron safe in the office.
Lyle Updike, the county’s representative on the Virginia 4H Livestock Judging Team, made the third highest score at the recent Atlantic Rural Exposition.
Lyle is the son of Mr, and Mrs. John Updike of Flint Hill.
