SN: “It’s about contact with the outside world. The piece reflects developmental stages in responding to what is outside yourself. In the first section, it’s about ways a mother tries to form you and you learn to take in and throw away what she feeds you. She’s the first influence and the first response is reaction more than an act of creativity. The second section is about how my sis-, ter divided ourselves up so that each was half of a whole.
