A public hearing to discuss a proposed 1986 zoning ordinance is scheduled for Monday, 7:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School Auditorium.
The proposed ordinance is said to contain few changes from the current ordinance adopted in 1973, but is written to be more legally binding, according to one of the authors of the proposal.
The proposal is “more legally sufficient,” according to Dick McNear, a Fauquier County planner who lives in Rappahannock County and was recruited to draft the new ordinance.
Said McNear: The “net effect” of the proposed ordinance is “probably not that different” from the ordinance passed 12 years ago.
McNear said the latest efforts were to “re-draft the thing in a different format.”
Copies of the proposal are available for $8 at the Rappahannock County Treasurer’s Office.
On Monday morning, the county supervisors will hold their regular monthly meeting in the courthouse to cover an apparently light agenda.
In addition to the routine matters, including receiving an update on the Sperryville sewer project from Wayne Cilimberg of the Rappahannock- Rapidan Planning District, supervisors are expected to discuss their options to insure county-owned property.
Del Price is also expected to recommend to the supervisors a method of disposing of the county’s trash. The county landfill currently under use is expected to be filled by April.
The supervisors are scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. in the county courthouse.
‘Weekend college’
offered at LFCC
Transfer and technical courses will be offered on Friday nights and Saturday mornings at Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown beginning tomorrow.
Courses in the “Weekend College” are primarily designed to provide college-level instruction which can transfer to a four-year institution.
Registration for the courses is today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30-9:30 a.m.
The courses run to Nov. 23 and will be subject to enrollment. More information concerning dates, times and courses offered may be obtained by calling the school at 869-1120.
