field squad, made up of five runners, placed third after a close battle with Clarke County for second place. Top runner Allen Grimm, of Front Royal, led the squad, coming in third. Other Wakefield runners, Butler, Pendergraph and Walker, came in 10th, 12th and 15th respectively.
The squad, which is currently in second place in the Delaney Conference, is working hard. They run 20 minutes every day after school followed by wind sprints and run-walks
to build endurance. Coach Gary Leake commented that the team is working hard and improving every day.
Another new edition to Wakefield’s sports roster, the girls’ volleyball team, played their first match this week. The team members commented that they owe their existence to the individual players and to Coach Cindy Baker. Some players are well-experienced and others are new to the sport, but all the players have enthusiasm and are willing to devote the time necessary to practice.
In the match this week, the girls faced the Randolph Macon Academy team. The Wakefield team lost to the RMA Yellow Jackets by a score of 3-1, but were thrilled that they were able to win a game in their first match.
