Big bucks

events, brings us to the true purpose of this column: dating.

Dating, like visits to the dentist and gym class physicals — and balancing checkbooks, I suppose — is somebody’s idea of a bad joke; necessary, perhaps, but certainly not the No. 1 brainstorm of the decade.

Dating has never been fair, regardless of what women tell you. Let’s face some facts here.

Women, through the centuries, have never been asked to partake in the difficult part of the dating process. It has been the man’s duty to initiate all the contact. I think it goes back to Adam and his being relentlessly henpecked in the garden of Eden, that place which harvested nothing but trouble for men ever since.

Over the years, it has always been the woman who waited at home, just to , have the guy call, drive his car and bum his gasoline, meet dad for the first time in a moment of anxiety exceeded by no known physical torture to be permitted the honor of spending his hard-earned cash to take her somewhere he really didn’t want to go in the first place.

Accepting a date should be compulsory. After all, all the girl has to do is go along. It’s not her money, her gas and it is her father and she’s already met him before.
