Rappahannock County grew by just 0.1% between 1980 and 1984. Washington, the county seat, showed a population decline of - 6.9%.
The statistics come from the recently released 1985 Data Summary published by the RappahannockRapidan Planning Commission.
The 1984 provisional estimate of Rappahannock’s population was 6,100 people — up by just seven people from 1980.
Washington was the only town in the study to lose population; according to the estimate 230 people resided in the town in 1984 while 247 people resided in the town in 1980.
The commission has released its statistics for Rappahannock, Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison and Orange Counties with statistics relating to agriculture, bank deposits, consumer price index, crime rates, employment, housing, income, local revenues, population, retail sales, schools and housing.
According to the data, Fauquier County had the greatest population increase in the five-county area with a growth rate of 9.5%. Orange County came in a distant second with an increase of 4.6%. The town of Warrenton had the biggest in
