A Rappahannock County
School bus turned into a snow bank last Thursday afternoon near Slate Mills. Driven by Richard Jenkins, the vehicle skidded on the icy road. None of the eight children aboard was injured and the bus was not damaged.
When Mr. Rufus Williams of Chester Gap went to the spring for water on January 27, he found a garter snake lying in the snow near the spring. After he killed the snake he measured it. It was 30 inches in length and about an inch in diameter.

With the State just digging
out of the weekend blizzard, additional snow fell Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday morning to add to the winter’s accumulation of 24 to 28 inches which blankets the Rappahannock countryside. Between 10 and 12 inches fell here Saturday and on Sunday high winds whipped the light snow into drifts of untold depths. People and livestock were drifted in and motorists were stranded. The Governor declared Virginia in a state of emergency.
John W. Pullen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde W. Pullen, was promoted to staff sergeant January 15 in Vietnam, where he is serving with the 87th Engineer Battalion.
