The level for “per se” conviction now is .15, but Sen. A. Joe Canada (R-Virginia Beach) and Del. C. Richard Cranwell (D-Vinton) have introduced bills to lower it to . 10, which can lead to conviction, but onlv after trial in court. Canada’s bill will come before the Senate Courts of Justice Committee for public hearing at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Advocates of stiffer drunken driving laws also want to force drivers involved in accidents to submit to blood tests, make refusal to take the test admissable in court (a measure that appears to be in trouble before the House Courts of Justice Committee), and “administrative” revocation of drivers licenses for those who fail or refuse to take the test.
