Wakefield School administers the ERB Test to students in the Grammar School and it was through these scores that the students participating in the CTY search were identified. In the second stage of the search, students take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) which is designed for measuring the aptitudes of high school juniors and seniors.
The Wakefield students participating in the CTY Search took the SAT test last weekend and are awaiting the results. Last year, Wakefield student Jeff Dickerson of Culpeper participated in the program and was among the top 150 scorers in the state.
SPTA sock hop
raises money

“I’ve seen a lot of smiling faces around here tonight,” commented parent Larry Sutton at the StudentParent-Teacher Association sock hop held at Rappahannock County Elementary School last Friday night.
Cindy Andreoni, president of the SPTA, stated the purpose of having sock hops: “It’s our main fund raiser but I consider the main purpose to be providing socialization for the children. Because of this, it’s good for students of all grades.” She hopes the community will realize that “it’s not just a dance — it is a fun time, too.”
Edie Clark, chairman of the sock hop, expressed her thanks to 'parents who brought baked goo<js for the snack table.
Ms. Clark feels participation is the key to a successful sock hop. She encourages everyone to “come and enjoy.”
The students gave many reasons for attending. Cindy Welch an,d Kelly Lawler both said that they “like to dance.”
Jennifer Leake said, “I don’t like to watch TV on Friday night.”
Jonathan Maeyer said, “The girls go after me!” and Johanna Tole believes that “it gives me energy.”
Many parents felt sock hops are a fine idea. “It is an excellent opportunity for the kids to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere,” commented parent Emma Swatman.
The SPTA members hope to see more “smiling faces” at their next sock hop which is planned for early spring.
