In 1742 Mr. Thomas Walker of Albemarle County imported hounds from England. Later George Washington received some hounds from Lafayette of France. “Like the bells of Moscow” was his description of their voices.
The hounds are hardy and vigorous, but obedient. Like other hounds, they are famous for their keen sense of smell.
