Disabled veterans
fund available
Service-Connected Disabled Veterans, their widows, and dependents affected by the recent flooding may be eligible for grants when disaster relief funds are not available from other sources.
This monetary relief is made available through a special disaster fund established by the national organization Disabled American Veterans. “The purpose of this fund is to provide assistance to service-connected disabled veterans in recovering from the immediate effects of natural disasters,” according to Roy E. Spicer, National Service Officer in the Virginia Regional Office in Roanoke.
The grants may be used to purchase food, clothing, and temporary shelter or to obtain relief from injury, illness, or personal loss when such items are not covered by insurance or other disaster relief agencies.
Veterans are urged to investigate thoroughly their opportunities for a variety of individual disaster assistance programs. For more information regarding Disaster Assistance, call the toll free Disaster Hotline. 1-800-468-7799.
