Rappahannock County Sheriff John Henry Woodward said that it was unclear whether Mr. Butler had
jumped or been thrown from the tractor. Although he was found lying on his stomach, scratches and dirt on his back and shoulders seem to indicate that he may have landed on his back and had rolled over, perhaps
onto his hands and knees, when the tractor wheel pinned him, the sheriff said.
