Rep. Slaughter responded that the bill passed by the House did not/ exempt subscribers to those types of programs from the tax which will pay for the catastrophic health care program. “Fd like to try and get that provision changed. It amounts to . double coverage.”
Mr. Slaughter added that he continues to be concerned about the health of the Medicare program a few years down the road, since the best estimates currently are that it will be out of money within 15 yean unless changes are made in the program. "Social Security,” he said, "is stronger than it was a few years ago, but Medicare is in a precarious situation.”
