Outdoors, there will be a church tent manned by people dressed as officers and soldiers of the day. They’ll hand out scripture cards and sell war-time memorabilia. Mrs. Pearson hopes to have a unit of soldiers camped on the 10-acre site and would love to have a cannon announce the beginning of festivities at noon.
She’s also trying to convince some church groups to prepare Brunswick stew and watermelon, traditional Civil War fare.
Mrs. Pearson will get a percentage of the sale, but estimates that most of her profit will be spent on advertising.
The thrill of it all, and the historical significance, will be her real reward. She plans to have an annual “North & South” sale.
