EMT class starts Sept. 10
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Emergency Medical Services Council has announced that a class for Emergency Medical Technicians will begin Sept. 10. The 120-hour course, which leads to state certification, will meet every Monday and Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Culpeper Rescue Squad Building on Rt. 229 North. For information or to register, call the RREMS office, 825-6849, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Smithsonian sponsors artists9 tour
The Smithsonian Associates Program has scheduled a tour on Sept. 12 of the workshops of artists who have chosen to live in Northern Virginia’s Piedmont region. Stopping first in The Plains, the tour will vsiit Country Cupboards, the shop of cabinetmaker Gene Lyman, known for his finely crafted cabinets and custom architectural millwork. Participants then tour Nol Putnam’s White Oak Forge, where he will demonstrate hot forged ironwork. After a box lunch from the Rail Stop, the tour moves to Rappahannock County to visit the studios of portrait artist Robin Purnell and of artists Rex Slack and Laurie Marshall. The journey will end at The Middle Street Gallery where participants will view an exhibition and talk with these and other local artists. This is the second year the Smithsonian Associates has sponsored a tour to visit local artists.
Beahm/Bolen reunion planned
Descendants, friends and relatives are invited to the fourth annual George Washington and Nancy Bolen Beahm family reunion Sunday, Sept. 6, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Rappahannock Park on Route 211 near Washington.

Red Cross annual meeting
The Fauquier Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 4 p.m. on the main floor of the John Barton Payne Building on Court House Square, Warrenton. All are invited. Refreshments will follow the meeting.
