quier ordinance. Although he declined specific comment on the pending suit, he said, ‘The county believes they have valid reasons for excluding them” as single-family dwellings on individual lots.
He suggested that there is a widespread feeling among the public that mobile homes are aesthetically unappealing and reduce property values. “I think you’ll find that there’s probably strong public support in this county not to allow it,” he said. “If I had to give you a gut reaction I would say a referendum on it would fail miserably.”
Piedmont Environmental Council Director Robert Dennis said that his organization, as well as other environmental groups, stands behind the restrictive ordinance. “We believe the Fauquier ordinance is sufficient and it will be upheld. It seems to us that the county has every right to control what we believe is substandard housing.”
Fauquier County Administrator Steve Crosby said that the county hopes to enlist the support of the Virginia Association of Counties, a statewide lobbying group based in Richmond which represents local governments.
VACO President Richard HallSizemore refused comment on the matter, saying that he had not reviewed the suit.
