In the ongoing review and revision of the county’s subdivision ordinance at last Wednesday’s work session, the Rappahannock Planning Commission^looked at tougher standards aimed at protecting groundwater and controlling residential development.
Newbill Miller, the Board of Supervisors’ representative on the commission, proposed that all new subdivided lots r 10 acres or smaller be required to nave a reserve drainfield. The backup site for waste water disposal would have to be shown on a plat before the subdivision could be approved, he suggested, adding that building on the reserve site would be prohibited. In addition, Mr. Miller proposed that the same setback standards for well construction apply to the reserve site as to the primary septic drainfield.
