Mushrooms have their own special taste, which can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. The delicate flavor complements many foods. They are delightful sauteed with butter and herbs and great teamed with steak or roast beef. For an extra zing, as you finish sauteeing, pour a touch of white wine or brandy into the pan. The alcohol will evaporate, leaving only the flavor.

Chopped mushrooms give hamburger patties new dimension. Slice fresh mushrooms into salads and stuffings, omelets and cream sauces. Serve them raw with dips or stuff caps with your favorite breadcrumb mixture and broil as a side dish or appetizer.

No matter how they are enjoyed, mushrooms offer many nutritious qualities. They are rich in potassium, a good source of B vitamin, niacin and fiber and they’re low in sodium. Mushrooms are a dieter’s true friend - one cup of sliced mushrooms has only 20 calories.
