Parents should be on the lookout for certain behavioral signs which may indicate a child is having difficulty with their vision. Your child may have a vision problem if he/she:
• Rubs eyes excessively.
• Shuts or covers one eye, tilts head or thrusts head forward.
• Has difficulty in reading or in other work requiring close use of the eyes.
• Blinks more than usual or is irritable when doing close work.
• Is unable to see distant things clearly.
• Squints eyelids together or frowns.
Mr. Pitts concluded, “If untreated, amblyopia can lead to blindness in the affected eye. If the situation is detected early enough, though, it can usually be treated and corrected. Children don’t know what they should see - only what they can see. Is your child seeing as well as he should?”
