Dr. Gangel said that he contacted Dr. John Einarson, chief of the Virginia Department of Health for Planning District 9, who said that given the minute amount of material exposed and the ventilation of the area, he felt there was no cause for alarm about the exposure.
“We may be being overly cautious,” Dr. Gangel said of his actions. “But when you’re dealing with people’s children you can’t be too cautious.” He added that the gym will remain sealed “as long as there is any question as to what the, substance is.”
At presstime Wednesday, the situation remained on hold as school officials waited for the test results from Richmond.
