The 8 percent raise to the base of the teachers’ pay scale, slightly over the 7.3 percent mandated by the state, attempts to improve Rappahannock’s ranking of 128th among 134 Virginia school divisions in starting pay, he told the supervisors. “We need to be competitive to get the best staff.” That same 8 percent is also proposed for the new administrative pay scale and for all classified employees.
