And as Evelyn Miller Willis pointed out in a letter to the board, this was a joint effort between citizens and government; the Board of
Supervisors allocated the funds for recovering two judges’ chairs and paid for the new carpet which was selected by Diane Bruce and the
committee. In her letter, Mrs. Willis thanked both Ms. Bruce and the board for their patience and interest.
All of the contributors, including the scores of Rappahannock residents who donated money for the project, are recognized on the handsome
brass plaque that hangs at the top of the stairs in the courtroom. And boding well for more of these
cooperative ventures, Mrs. Willis expressed the committee’s willingness “to assist in any way in the future.”
