Again, it was Mr. Massie who argued in favor of keeping support at that level. He explained that the increase over the $63,724 allocated this year would go for standardized insurance to cover fully all of the county's fire and rescue companies. And speaking from the experience gained at a fire at his farm the previous day, Mr. Massie praised the quick response time and expertise of these unpaid volunteers. By consensus, the supervisors agreed to a 10 percent increase for fire and rescue.

The board will continue its review of the draft budget at a work session this Thursday, April 28, when department heads will explain their requests for 1988-89.
